On sale since early 1990 in several European countries and the United States, the female condom is available in France since the second quarter of 2000. This new contraceptive tool also protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Latex for use with lubricants, it can "stay" in place long before and after the report ... Discover how to use it, its advantages and its (few) disadvantages.

The female condom is actually a kind of sheath provided with a flexible ring at each end. The inner ring, located on the closed side, serves for the insertion and retention of the condom. The outer ring, largest, covers the external genitalia. The condom is 170 mm long and 78 mm in diameter. Polyurethane, it is thinner yet stronger than the latex used for the male condom. It is lubricated and disposable.Is it effective?The female condom is available in France only recently. Besides a problem of definition of safety standards, this delay on the French market is the expectation of the Government of extensive studies about its reliability as a method of contraception and protection against STDs. The female condom has also passed these tests: 99.2% of contraceptive efficacy for a consistent and correct use, effective barrier against STDs officials (herpes virus, hepatitis B, AIDS virus ...).

The cost is slightly higher than the lowest male condom (Price: € 8.70 box of 3 pharmacy) but you can also find in ECFCs (Planning Centres and Family Education) and centers screening, which distribute free. It is the same of some associations fighting against HIV.Instructions: how to put a female condom?To place the female condom, one must be in a comfortable position (sitting, lying or standing with one foot on a chair).

Leaving the condom (see general appearance above, with both inner and outer rings), do not tear it with fingernails or rings.

Then press the inner ring between thumb and forefinger.

Then place the index finger inside the condom to push the inner ring to the bottom. The outer ring should remain outside the vagina. The condom is in place.
In the report, you just check that the penis is well within the condom.

To remove, twist the outer ring to close it (to prevent sperm to flow). Then simply pull gently to remove the condom.AdvantagesAccording to its manufacturer, the female condom has many advantages:Stronger than the male condom, it is less prone to possible tearing;It can be put in place long before the report (up to hours), which does not interrupt foreplay;It extends privacy, since it is not necessary to remove it immediately after ejaculation;It does not compress the male sex;It provides better tactile feel and is good conductor of heat;Not being latex, it does not cause allergies;You can add any type of lubricant (not only water-based lubricants), even if it is already lubricated.This particular condom offers women a better control of the means of prevention, to the extent that the protection does not necessarily involve the male partner. From a more practical point of view, it would provide a clean feeling, the sperm remaining inside. The outer ring, by its friction on the clitoris, would achieve orgasm more quickly.DisadvantagesIf all users seem satisfied with the female condom, some point out some disadvantages. Thus, the female condom requires practice strand, three or four tries before reaching easily place. It is therefore advisable to train only before first use! The manufacturer also stipulates that condoms "can be offered only to women who have already had sex and with good knowledge of their anatomy."
